Meet Kate Munger and the Threshold Choir.
The Threshold Choir honors the ancient tradition of singing at the bedsides of people who are struggling, some with living, some with dying.
The voice, as the original human instrument, is a true and gracious vehicle for compassion and comfort. When invited, Threshold Choir members visit the bedsides a few times a week in small groups and invite families and caregivers to join in song or to participate by listening.
The repertoire is chosen to respond to individual musical taste, spiritual direction and physical capacity. Singing might include rounds, chants lullabies, hymns, spirituals and classical choral music.
I am honored that my song "To Dream Again" is a staple in the Threshold Choir's repertoire.
Choirs are throughout the Bay Area including Marin, Sonoma, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Mendocino, Los Angeles, Orange, Santa Barbara, San Diego and San Mateo Counties.
As well, Threshold Choirs meet in Sacramento/Davis, Nevada City and Chico, Calif.; Sturgeon Bay and Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Portland, Ashland and Medford, Oregon; Anchorage, Alaska; Seattle, Vashon Island, Friday Harbor, Washington; Reno, Nevada; Kalamazoo, Michigan; Cincinnati, Yellow Springs, Ohio; Taos and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The choirs provide opportunities for women to share the gifts of their voices in compassion and truth at life's thresholds. It is a sacred, delightful way to build community and be part of a unique, co-created adventure.
